Bloomberg reported in late October that Amtrak plans to offer free Wi-Fi internet access on their high-speed Acela trains starting in 2010. The Wi-Fi may not stay free though, they’ll decide whether or not to charge after the initial deployment.

I fly fairly frequently and having wi-fi available on a trip would be awesome. I don’t travel by train very often, since Southwest serves all the airports I ever need to fly out of, but if the train were more affordable and had free wi-fi, I just might take the train instead.
